Marvel Tōkon controls and input options

Two ways to play the same character, and a team layer on top. What follows is from official guidance — exact button diagrams are not published, so this describes the systems rather than inventing a layout.

Control scheme, controller and keyboard

Marvel Tōkon plays on PS5 with the DualSense controller and on PC (Steam / Epic) with a controller or keyboard. Under the hood there is one control scheme with two input styles layered on it: a simplified Quick Skill layer where a single button press fires a special, and the classic commandlayer where the traditional motion inputs do the same moves for more damage. You are not picking a “simple mode” character or a “technical” one — both button styles live on the same fighter at the same time.

Arc System Works has not published an official button-layout diagram for either platform, so this page describes what each control does rather than printing a key-by-key map we would be guessing at. When an official controls chart goes up, it lands here.

Quick Skill and command inputs

Two execution methods: traditional Command Inputs, or the Quick Skill option that fires skills with a single button press.

The design choice worth understanding: the full command input is rewarded, not required. Doing the motion gives more damage on the same move. That keeps a simplified player and a traditional player in the same game rather than putting them in separate control tiers.

If you have seen the vocabulary elsewhere: Quick Skill is Marvel Tōkon’s simple-inputoption — what other fighting games would call “easy inputs” or “modern controls” — while the command layer is the classic motion-input style. The difference here is that they are not separate control types you choose at character select. Both live on the same fighter at once, and the Quick Skill input and the full command input fire the same special, the motion version just for more damage.

The Assemble button

Pressing the Assemble button calls a teammate in for an Assemble Assist attack.

Assists come in distinct types — shooter, vertical, and assault — which can be called from neutral without spending Assemble gauge and can be woven into combos.

Directional tagging

Hold a direction with the tag button to choose WHO comes in: neutral/forward = 2nd teammate, down = 3rd, back = 4th. After an assist you briefly get a 'Switch?' prompt — pressing tag during that window swaps you into that character.

Defensive team inputs

Assemble Counter (□+× while NOT guarding): your character performs a defensive backstep, and if the opponent attacks during it, you automatically launch a counterattack.

Crossover (□+× WHILE guarding): calls a teammate in to interrupt the opponent's attack and create an opening for a counteroffensive.

Both use the same two-button press — whether you are holding guard decides which one comes out.

Combo extension

Assemble Rush: a team-extension tool that slots into combo routes — official guidance shows the route Light → Medium → Heavy → Skill → Assemble Rush → follow-up attack.

Link combos

Link combos only activate on hit or block, not on whiff.

Common questions

Does Marvel Tōkon have simple controls?
Two execution methods: traditional Command Inputs, or the Quick Skill option that fires skills with a single button press.
Are motion inputs required?
No. Quick Skill fires a skill with a single button press. Performing the full command input gives more damage, so the traditional method is rewarded rather than mandatory.
Does Marvel Tōkon have modern controls or easy inputs?
Yes — Quick Skill is the modern-controls / easy-input option: one button press performs a character's special with no motion required. It sits on every fighter alongside the classic command inputs, so you can start with single-button specials and add the motion inputs later for extra damage.
Can you play Marvel Tōkon with a keyboard?
On PC (Steam / Epic) the game is playable with a keyboard or a controller; on PS5 it uses the DualSense. Quick Skill's single-button specials make a keyboard entirely viable — you are not forced into precise motion inputs to use a character's kit.
Can you remap or change the controls?
Arc System Works has not published the control-settings menu or a button-remapping screen, so we are not going to claim a specific rebind flow exists or does not. Button remapping is standard in modern fighting games; treat it as likely but unconfirmed until the options menu is documented.
How do I choose which teammate tags in?
Hold a direction with the tag button to choose WHO comes in: neutral/forward = 2nd teammate, down = 3rd, back = 4th. After an assist you briefly get a 'Switch?' prompt — pressing tag during that window swaps you into that character.
What is the Assemble button?
Pressing the Assemble button calls a teammate in for an Assemble Assist attack.
