Starting points

Squads worth trying, and why each slot is there

Not a tier list. These are starting compositions with a stated intent, built from documented kits — and where the reasoning rests on something that has not been shown publicly, it says so.

First Team

Beginner

Three auto-combo-friendly fighters and one anchor that covers your mistakes.

  1. Point Captain AmericaOfficial beta guidance flagged him as beginner-friendly. That is a sourced fact about difficulty; that it frees up attention for the tag system is our reasoning.inferred
  2. 2nd Ms. MarvelAlso named beginner-friendly in official beta guidance; the reach her stretch attacks imply is a guess until her kit is documented in full.inferred
  3. 3rd Iron ManSmart Missiles and the Repulsor Shot pair give the down-tag a threat that keeps working while you reset.
  4. 4th HulkA big body in the 4th slot makes the back tag a panic button with reach.inferred

Hulk's kit was never publicly playable, so his anchor value here is an inference from his archetype, not from documented moves.

Storm Front

Zoning wall

Build a wall of projectiles and lightning, then tag out before anyone gets in.

  1. Point StormTempest is screen-wide and usable mid-action, and Free Flight lets her leave the ground entirely — the strongest documented tool for refusing to play neutral.
  2. 2nd Iron ManPlaced on the forward assist to occupy the horizontal lane behind a zoning point. His movelist documents the moves but not how they behave as an assist, so the slot logic is ours.inferred
  3. 3rd Doctor DoomIntended as the down assist covering the angle Storm leaves open while airborne — a reading of the two kits, not something either movelist states.inferred
  4. 4th MagnetoHeld as a back tag to keep the far slot threatening. Nothing in his documented moves specifies assist behaviour, so this is intent rather than fact.inferred

Zoning is the archetype most likely to be balanced differently between beta and launch. Treat this as a shell, not a verdict.

Claws Out

Rushdown

Get in once, then never let the tag pressure stop.

  1. Point WolverineHis 12 documented moves are almost entirely forward-moving — Berserker Dive and the claw rush both close distance as part of the attack.
  2. 2nd Spider-ManIntended as the forward assist for re-approaching after a blocked string. Assist behaviour is not documented for any fighter, so this is slot intent.inferred
  3. 3rd MagikHer portal moves ARE documented; that they make a down assist arrive from a separately-blockable angle is our inference about assist behaviour.inferred
  4. 4th Black PantherPlaced on the back tag to keep the far slot threatening. 'Kinetic pressure' is our characterisation, not a documented property.inferred

Rushdown comps live and die on frame data, which does not exist publicly yet. The picks are kit-shaped, not frame-verified.

The Long Game

Setup

Put things on screen, then make the opponent solve two problems at once.

  1. Point MagikPortals are the clearest documented setup tool on the roster — they change where the next threat comes from.
  2. 2nd StormTornado places a lingering whirlwind at range; Tempest then moves it. A persistent screen object is what makes setups compound.
  3. 3rd Doctor DoomIntended as a ground-control down assist while the point resets the screen — an intent for the slot, not a documented assist property.inferred
  4. 4th DangerCalibrate upgrades her other tools, and Holoseeker plus Translocation give the back tag two very different answers.

Setup play depends heavily on assist cooldowns, which the beta build did not expose. This is the comp most likely to change at launch.

Heavy Hands

Big body

Fewer, bigger conversions — built around Ultimate Skill gauge, not chip damage.

  1. Point HulkIf you want the match to turn on one big hit landing, the biggest body starts.inferred
  2. 2nd Captain AmericaShield Throw returns to him, which is exactly the low-commitment poke a forward assist wants.
  3. 3rd Ghost RiderHis chain moves ARE documented as long-range; that this makes his down assist reach further than other fighters' is a comparison nothing published supports.inferred
  4. 4th CarnageSymbiote reach is the reason to want him cornered-side — though nothing about his kit has been shown publicly.inferred

Hulk and Carnage were both absent from the public beta. This comp is the most speculative on the page — it is here because the archetype question gets asked, not because it is tested.
