Every mode in Marvel Tōkon, and what Episode Mode actually is
What PlayStation has documented so far, and where the documentation stops. Most of the mode list was published around the July open beta rather than as a retail feature list, which is a distinction the other roundups skip.
Episode Mode: the official line, and the reported one
PlayStation's own description is that Episode Mode lets players enjoy a brand new and original story set in the Marvel Universe, created in partnership with a fan-favourite Marvel writer and a team of manga and comics artists.
Reported, not confirmed. Beta players reported that the story is delivered largely through comic-panel presentation rather than as a conventional campaign of playable fights. This is a community observation from a pre-release build, not an official statement, and no official source describes the format either way.
In short: PlayStation confirms Episode Mode contains an original story, and has not described how much of it is playable combat.
Online modes
Four of them, and all four need a PlayStation Plus membership on PS5. That catches people out, because the July open beta did not require Plus — a free beta weekend is not the retail arrangement.

No PlayStation Plus needed for any of these. Note what is not in the list: no arcade ladder has been named, which is the other thing people keep asking about.
