Who high-rank players actually picked in the open beta

The split the headline numbers hide

Ranking by total picks makes this look like a popularity contest. It is really two different contests. Magik was the most-fielded point fighter (68 teams) and Blade the most-fielded assist (150 picks) — and the roster divides sharply on which job it gets given.

Most often the point fighter

Almost always an assist

Not in this data

Hulk, Carnage, Loki and Deadpool were not playable in the open beta, so they have no usage numbers — not a zero, an absence. They join the roster on August 6, 2026. See who is not in the game at all for the separate question of characters that were never on the launch roster.

Questions

Who was the most used character in the Marvel Tōkon open beta?
Magik, with 200 picks across 1,600 character slots on the Vibranium and above leaderboard — ahead of Blade on 189. Several outlets reported this order the other way round; the source charts show Magik first.
Is this a tier list?
No. It counts what high-rank players picked over one three-day weekend on a pre-launch build. Popularity is not strength — a character can be picked constantly because they are easy to use, or ignored despite being strong because nobody has solved them yet.
Where do these numbers come from?
A snapshot of the in-game Vibranium and above leaderboard taken by @AlietteFaye on July 27, 2026, just before the beta servers closed. It was published as three bar charts. We transcribed the values from those charts; every character's leader count plus assist count equals its overall count, which is checked at build time.
Why are only 16 characters listed?
Hulk, Carnage, Loki, Deadpool were not playable in the open beta, so they have no usage data at all. They are left out rather than shown as zero, which would read as "nobody picked them".
How big was the sample?
402 ranked team entries covering 1,600 character slots. That is the top of the ladder only — Vibranium and above, the sixth of seven ranks — so it describes the high-level meta, not what the average player picked.
