Summary
The roster's premier villain leads his own team.
Doctor Doom leads a faction for the first time in a Marvel fighting game. The Knights of Doom are built around him, and his kit blends Latverian technology with sorcery into command-style zoning.
His Vs.-series assists defined an era of team construction, so his return to a team format carries real history. He was beta-playable; whether any legacy tools survive in spirit is a launch-lab question this page will answer with tested data.

Inputs use numpad notation for a character facing right: 2 is down, 6 is forward, so 236 is a quarter-circle forward and 623 a “dragon punch” motion; L/M/H are the three attack strengths and U is the Unique button. The game also has simplified one-button skills — the controls guide covers both.
Startup, active, recovery and on-block values need the retail build to measure and land here after August 6, 2026. Invented frame data is worse than none.
How to play Doctor Doom
Doctor Doom is command zoning from a superior position. Nullify Shield places a barrier that blocks projectiles and doubles as a ranged attack, and Free Flight lets him float to the exact spot he wants — so he fights from where you can't easily reach him and dares you to approach.
Auric Ray is his beam (Medium angles it, Heavy covers a wide area), Merciful Smite drops a satellite laser to control space on a delay, and Diplomacy is a lunging command grab for the moment you start respecting the zoning too much. Latverian Legion, his Ultimate, restrains the opponent for a Doombot assault.
There is no timed install — his strength is simply holding space with beams and Free Flight and punishing every approach, mixing in Diplomacy when you block too long. It is a patience character that wins by making the other player come to him on his terms.
In the open beta he was picked 108 times — 6th overall — split 15 on point and 93 as an assist, roughly 86% assist. Auric Ray is exactly the kind of beam that makes a coveted assist, and the numbers show it: players overwhelmingly wanted Doom backing their point character rather than leading the team himself.
Kit-level gameplan from Doctor Doom’s documented moves and the open-beta usage split — not frame data. Specific frame advantages and matchup reads land once the retail build is tested.
On the Vibranium and above leaderboard, Doctor Doom was picked 108 times across 1,600 character slots — 6th most-picked of the 16 playable.
Players overwhelmingly used Doctor Doom as an assist — 86% of picks — rather than as the fighter they started the match with. Compare every fighter’s beta pick rate.
By raw picks, Doctor Doom landed just ahead of Iron Man and just behind Black Panther.
Popularity is not strength — this counts what people chose over one three-day weekend on a pre-launch build, not what wins.
