Summary
Your friendly neighborhood point character.
Spider-Man is the game's marketing lead and the Amazing Guardians' anchor. Web-assisted movement, quick strings, whiff punishment: the official material presents him exactly the way Spider-Man should play.
Beta guidance groups him with Iron Man as relatively easy to learn, a notch above the dedicated starter trio. History says agile all-rounders live or die on their damage output, and that question stays open until the launch build is measured.

Inputs use numpad notation for a character facing right: 2 is down, 6 is forward, so 236 is a quarter-circle forward and 623 a “dragon punch” motion; L/M/H are the three attack strengths and U is the Unique button. The game also has simplified one-button skills — the controls guide covers both.
Startup, active, recovery and on-block values need the retail build to measure and land here after August 6, 2026. Invented frame data is worse than none.
How to play Spider-Man
Spider-Man is the all-rounder, and his whole game is built on Web Zip: he shoots a web and pulls himself toward it, and the trajectory changes with the direction you hold, so he closes from angles rather than walking straight in. When a grounded Web Zip connects, Zip Kick and Web Slam turn that movement straight into a knockdown.
The Skills round him into a complete kit rather than a gimmick: Web Shot for a projectile, Arachnid Assault as a lunge with a dedicated aerial anti-air version, and Web Bomb to pin the opponent in place for a setup. Spidey-Sense is the read that ties it together — it evades on reaction and counters a point character's attack, so his defense has a button, not just blocking.
He has no install or resource meter to manage, which is the point: he is the fundamentals-plus-mobility pick. Web Warrior and the Radioactive Spider Ultimate are his cash-ins, and because the Ultimate's close-range hit powers up its follow-up, spacing the confirm is what separates a good Spider-Man from an okay one.
In the open beta he was the 4th most-picked fighter (143 picks), and his point-versus-assist split was closer than most of this batch — 49 as the point character, 94 as an assist. Relative to the zoners around him he was fielded on point noticeably more, which is exactly what you would expect from an all-rounder who can actually lead a team rather than only support one.
Kit-level gameplan from Spider-Man’s documented moves and the open-beta usage split — not frame data. Specific frame advantages and matchup reads land once the retail build is tested.
On the Vibranium and above leaderboard, Spider-Man was picked 143 times across 1,600 character slots — 4th most-picked of the 16 playable.
Players overwhelmingly used Spider-Man as an assist — 66% of picks — rather than as the fighter they started the match with. Compare every fighter’s beta pick rate.
By raw picks, Spider-Man landed just ahead of Black Panther and just behind Magneto.
Popularity is not strength — this counts what people chose over one three-day weekend on a pre-launch build, not what wins.
