Open beta: playable12 documented movesBeginner-friendlyAugust 6, 2026

Summary

Adamantium claws, berserker pressure — the X-Men's point man.

Official beta guidance lists Wolverine among the game's beginner picks, and the reason is the gameplan: get in, press the advantage, never let go. Reveal coverage calls the kit berserker aggression, which matches every version of Logan since 1974.

Simple gameplans travel, and claws sell themselves, so learning to block his pressure will matter even for players who never touch him.

Beta footage of his offense is easy to find. Verified damage and frame data land here after August 6.

Inputs use numpad notation for a character facing right: 2 is down, 6 is forward, so 236 is a quarter-circle forward and 623 a “dragon punch” motion; L/M/H are the three attack strengths and U is the Unique button. The game also has simplified one-button skills — the controls guide covers both.

Startup, active, recovery and on-block values need the retail build to measure and land here after August 6, 2026. Invented frame data is worse than none.

How to play Wolverine

Wolverine is berserker rushdown with a rage economy. His Berserker string — Claw into Finish, Maul, Sweep or Charge — chains on contact and each ending either activates or spends Berserker Rage, so his pressure is a resource you are constantly banking or cashing rather than a fixed routine. He has no zoning; the whole character is about getting in and staying in.

The tools that get him there matter: X-Force releases a projectile and negates projectiles as it slashes, which is his ticket through a fireball; Feral Shred is his anti-air; Eviscerate has armor on the grounded Medium. Everything points forward.

Beyond Rage there is no install — the gameplan is close the gap (X-Force through zoning), start the Berserker chains, and decide every rep whether to build Rage for later or spend it now for the bigger ender. Savage Instinct, his Ultimate, activates Rage on hit so a raw confirm still leaves him loaded.

In the open beta he was picked 79 times, split 27 on point and 52 as an assist — more balanced toward point than the zoners in this batch. A pure rushdown character is something you can actually lead a team with, and the split reflects that: he was fielded on point at a healthier rate than the setup fighters around him.

Kit-level gameplan from Wolverine’s documented moves and the open-beta usage split — not frame data. Specific frame advantages and matchup reads land once the retail build is tested.

On the Vibranium and above leaderboard, Wolverine was picked 79 times across 1,600 character slots — 10th most-picked of the 16 playable.

Total picks79
As point fighter27
As assist52

Players overwhelmingly used Wolverine as an assist — 66% of picks — rather than as the fighter they started the match with. Compare every fighter’s beta pick rate.

By raw picks, Wolverine landed just ahead of Green Goblin and just behind Storm.

Popularity is not strength — this counts what people chose over one three-day weekend on a pre-launch build, not what wins.

Combos

Combo routes for Wolverine live at ComboForge, where players have been submitting and voting on them for a year. That is a better source than anything we would assemble here.
